Surface finish after barrel polishing

Advanced inspection equipment and abundant processing facilities that support productivity and technological capabilities! Introduction to glossiness and surface color.

Barrel polishing is a very suitable polishing technique for rounding the edges of machine parts and metal components. It is evaluated based on three factors: surface roughness, glossiness, and surface color, with customer requests such as "finer," "shinier," and "whiter." While surface roughness and corner radius are indicated in the drawings, requests regarding glossiness and color are mostly expressed in abstract terms. The shape of the surface irregularities, or surface characteristics, varies depending on the processing conditions and polishing materials used in our company. Since we do not have color difference meters or gloss meters, the evaluation is based on visual inspection rather than numerical assessment. However, we strive to respond to requests as much as possible by clarifying differences in surface conditions using magnified images from a microscope. *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.*

Removal of black discoloration layer [barrel polishing]

Solving problems through oil removal (degreasing) and optimization of processing conditions! Introduction of a case study on barrel polishing.

This is a case study on the removal of black discoloration layers. We received an inquiry from another barrel polishing company stating, "We had barrel polishing done, and while the burrs were removed, the surface of the item was delivered discolored black compared to before the polishing. We cannot deliver it to our customer in this condition, so is there any way to restore the material's color?" We performed barrel polishing at our company, removing the black discoloration layer and returning it to the original material color. Depending on the type and amount of oil on the raw material before barrel polishing, as well as the polishing conditions, dirt can sometimes adhere to the surface. This issue can be resolved through oil removal (degreasing) and optimization of processing conditions. *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.

Barrel polishing customer case study

In addition to being able to evaluate objectively, we consistently perform processing with uniform high quality through a "strict processing procedure manual."

We would like to introduce a case of barrel polishing conducted by Nishimura Giken Co., Ltd. The gas stove component that supports the heating container, known as "gotoku." The customer's specifications regarding the safety of the edges and sharp parts of the gotoku were abstract, stating, "Housewives should be able to touch it with wet hands without getting cut." In response to this challenge, our company used projectors and microscopes to numerically present the rounding dimensions (R dimensions) of the edges and sharp parts processed by polishing. In addition to being able to evaluate objectively, we consistently perform high-quality processing with strict processing procedures to ensure uniformity. Of course, we received high praise from our customers. On our website, we also showcase cases of barrel polishing for "stainless steel vintage trays for bakeries" and "sprockets for motorcycle racing." *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.

Barrel polishing

We accept everything from prototypes to mass-produced items. Please consult with us first!

Barrel polishing includes deburring, rounding edges, adjusting surface roughness (improving smoothness), scale removal, and glossy finishing. It is also referred to as cutting barrel or gloss barrel. 【Rotary Barrel】 This is a common barrel polishing method that involves rotating the barrel. It allows for stable and precise polishing with minimal unevenness. 【Vibratory Barrel】 This method vibrates the entire barrel tank. Compared to rotary barrels, it tends to result in less impact marks, scratches, and bending. 【Centrifugal Barrel】 This method combines the orbital and rotational motion of the polishing tank for high-speed rotation. It provides strong polishing power, allowing for heavy cutting to precise finishing in a short time. Our company offers barrel polishing tailored to our customers' needs, using rotary barrels, vibratory barrels, centrifugal barrels, and other polishing methods. We can also perform consistent processing with buff polishing and chemical treatment. Please feel free to consult with us!
